Lovie Bucknell,
Director |
|
Ms. Bucknell's dance career began in a jazz dance class in 1983 with George Jayne. She was extremely inspired by Natina Pistone at this time and went on to study with Natina, as well. African Dance followed in 1989 with Cai Solien and Sarah Keller. Next Lovie was honored to study belly dance with her mother, Jacquie Bucknell, Artistic Director of the fifteen year running; Troupe A La Ma. Lovie first studied Modern Dance in 1990 with Jo Anne Miller-Watts, Artistic Director of the 23 year old Magic Circle Dance Company. She performed and choreographed for Magic Circle for 6 years in Bend, Oregon where she also taught African Style Dance for 2 years. In 1997 she finished college at University of Oregon where she earned her B.A. in Psychology and Dance (here she also grew to have a huge respect for Ballet!) |

She has been teaching Modern Technique and Jazz Fusion classes for Sierra College for seven years and is thrilled that the Physical Education Building is going into construction at the Nevada County Campus in spring of 2007! Lovie studies dance wherever she travels. Most often she finds herself in San Francisco at ODC and SF Dance Center, studying under Robert Moses, Lizz Roman, Cheryl Chaddick, Stacy Printz, Janice Garrett, Private Freeman and KT Nelson. When she is not in class in this beautiful city, she is watching her teachers and their companies perform.
Bucknell is honored to have become a delegate for National Dance Week; a grassroots, nationwide celebration of dance from April 20-29, 2007. She will again be bringing NDW to our area by promoting the dance community through organizing free classes, assemblies and performances with The Movement Alliance and Sierra College, all over the county during this week. Please jump aboard!!!!!!!!!!! |
