Karen Woerner-Brown began dancing at age 17 in the Nevada Union High School Theatrical Dance program. Under the direction on Yelena Holt, that she first discovered her love of dance and grew to placement in the advanced level. After graduation, she continued taking Modern Dance classes taught by Lovie Bucknell at Sierra College. This inspired Karen to continue studying dance at Santa Rosa Junior College where she took classes in Tap and Ballet. When she moved to Santa Cruz in 2002, she studied Ballet, Modern, Salsa, and African Dance at Cabrillo College. Karen had the pleasure of working with some very influential teachers here, such as Olava Menzcowska, Sharon Took-Zozaya and Regina DeCosse. When Karen and her husband, Ben, moved back to their hometown in Nevada City, Karen began dancing with Sierra College and The Movement Alliance. After taking a break to spend time with her baby boy, Eden, she is looking forward to returning to the world of Dance and has missed it tremendously. She is honored to be performing with The Movement Alliance again!
